Pressiat RTW Spring 2023
Inspired by a fictional encounter between Iggy Pop and Marilyn Monroe, Vincent Garnier Pressiat set out to dress the queens of the night across the entire gender spectrum.
For his first on-time presentation in Paris, he gave them anything from dresses that trailed on the floor with a frothy train of bare numbers that left little to the imagination, like a look comprised only of thin silver chains.
Elsewhere it mixed 50s and Victorian tropes, transforming any notion of elegance in provocative statements. Corsets are revisited with snakeskin patterns and juxtaposed with a pencil half-skirt leaving one side bare, or with patent leather pants and chains. A cocoon knit dress had a neckline so low it bared the navel.
Dotted between decadent dresses and destroyed knitwear were a handful of pieces that passed for loan -to-wear offerings, such as a laced t-shirt or a suit covered in tulle laced in ribbons, creating an irregular striped effect.
Even with those, it was hard to reconcile commercial realism with its frenzied programming, even in a season where creators dare to bare and be bold in their casting. But given the growing number of famous faces - and curves - turning to him for one-of-a-kind acts, does he really need to cut back on his extravagance to fit into a retail rack?
