Prison officials leave court without Emefiele

Nigeria Corrections Service officials, who were in court to return the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to custody, left without taking the accused on Tuesday.

NCS officials left after a senior female Department of State Services official intervened.

Judge Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos had earlier granted Emefiele bail after he was charged with illegal possession of firearms, but the DSS refused to allow prison officials to take the former CBN governor into custody, as ordered by the court.

Meanwhile, a fight ensued between officials from both agencies with a senior prisons official badly beaten.

Moments after the scuffle, a senior DSS official arrived in court and had a brief discussion with prison officials who then left the court.
