France's first goal came from an unlikely source in their left-back, Theo Hernández, who gave them the lead five minutes into the game.

According to Opta, Hernández's debut game is the first scored by a side in a World Cup semi-final since 1958, when Vavá netted in two minutes for Brazil against France.

While it looked like Hernandez's one goal would be enough for France to join Argentina in Sunday's final, the defending champions added one more thanks to substitute Kolo Muani who carried the score at 2-0 44 seconds after entering the field.< /p>

Although the Atlas Lions gave it their all until the very last minute, their fairy tale run in Qatar was ultimately halted by France who are aiming to be the second team after Brazil to defend with success his World Cup title.

This is the fourth time the French have made it to the final; winning in 1998 and 2018 while losing in 2006

The game

Having kept their solidity at the back for so long in all their previous games, no one expected Morocco to concede just five minutes into the game, but they did in the Wednesday meeting

An orchestrated move from the right flank by Antoine Griezmann saw him past El Yamiq and after some blocked shots from Mbappe the ball fell nicely for Hernandes who slammed it perfectly for the defending champions.

After Morocco found themselves in an unusual situation at the end of the match, they were quick to attempt an attempt on goal.

After surviving a deluge of attacks from France, the Atlas Lions came awfully close to securing the equalizer in the dying moments of the first half when the centre-half attempted a kick kick over the head that required a fingertip save from Hugo Lloris.< /p>

The second half saw a lot of changes from both coaches as they tried to increase their fortunes.

Kolo Muani got the game-winner for France after a blocked attempt from Mbappe came his way and he tucked it in.
