Qatar 2022: I cried when Messi won the World Cup - Nadal
Tennis star, Rafael Nadal has revealed he cried when he saw Lionel Messi lift the 2022 FIFA World Cup for the first time.
Messi steered Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar last Sunday.
He also walked away with the FIFA Ballon d'Or as the tournament's best player, having scored seven goals and provided three assists.
Nadal has now explained how overwhelmed he was with emotions during the match.
He said: "Messi winning the World Cup made me happy. For someone so great to culminate in a title that was missing, of this caliber, with all that means for Argentina it felt right to me,” Nadal said.
"I enjoyed it and was moved. Without being on the Argentina side, when Messi scored the third goal, I had tears in my eyes.
"It was because of the emotion of seeing someone so great achieve what he lacked, of having suffered so much to achieve it."
