Queen Elizabeth II was a wonderful and perfect woman - Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday described the late Queen Elizabeth II as a perfect and wonderful woman.

Obasanjo spoke while giving an interview to News Central TV at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Penthouse residence in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun.

In a statement by spokesman Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo praised the late Commonwealth leader, hinting that he was about to leave high school when he first visited the country in 1956 .

The former leader said he was fortunate to have hosted the Queen as Nigerian President at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Abuja in 2003.

"My relationship with the Queen was perfect. She was a great, great woman, who had shown great examples in human relations.

"She behaved so graciously, so dignified. She was someone I had tremendous respect for.

"I join the rest of the world in mourning with his family, the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the rest of the world.

"I also mourn with Prince Charles, who promised to continue where she left off. May his soul rest in peace," he added.
