Rapper Aitch told how he felt like "the most hated person in Manchester" after q a mural of music icon Ian Curtis was painted with an Amazon Music ad for his album.
The Close to Home promo was placed on an artwork depicting the singer of Joy Division, which artist Akse P19 created for a mental health campaign in 2020.
Aitch said he was now recovered, but was left "smoked" by the confusion.
Amazon Music said he apologized to all those who were "rightly upset".
The mural of the singer, who committed suicide in his home in 1980 shortly before the band Salford is not touring the US, was installed on Port Street in Manchester city center for World Mental Health Day 2020.
The painting on it was criticized by locals and music fans alike, and condemned by the artist, former Curtis teammate Peter Hook and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.
The Manchester rapper, whose real name is Harrison James Armstrong, told BBC Breakfast he discovered this happened on social media and acted immediately.
