People's Democratic Party Chairman of the Board, Dr. Walid Jibrin, has urged the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike teams to re-sheath their sword.

He said it was important for both political camps to allow efforts to resolve the party's internal crisis to materialize.

The BoT chairman made the call in a statement on Thursday. Jibrin noted that it is time for both sides to see the internal crisis as a "misunderstanding" and not as a "problem".

The statement reads: "I wish to appeal to all PDP members and all Nigerians to remain calm and never create bad blood and confusion over the state of our party. All efforts are on ground for reconciliation between wike, the party, and presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“What is happening now should never be seen as a problem, but rather as a misunderstanding within the party. In this period leading up to the 2023 elections, we must focus on how to win all positions to challenge and seriously respect the provisions of the party constitution.

"My strong advice is that we give strong support to the current reconciliation committee set up to resolve all issues.

"Thereafter, BoT, the highest advisory body of the party, will give more encouragement for greater success of the PDP."

The PUNCH reports that Wike's team had set a condition to hold peace talks with Atiku representatives on Friday (tomorrow).

Sources from the governor's team told The PUNCH on Wednesday that Wike's men, on their way to the meeting, would insist on the resignation of the party's national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition for the talks to continue.

We learned, however, that Atiku's delegation had sworn to reject the call for Ayu's resignation.

The PUNCH had reported that the rift between Atiku and Wike began after the governor's ambition to become the party's vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 general election failed. following the emergence of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Atiku's running mate.
