Report reveals 'eight groups' are 'in talks' with Glazers over potential £5bn sale to Man Utd

At least eight groups are involved in negotiations with Man Utd over the ownership situation, according to The Telegraph.

The Glazer family announced in November 2022 that they were carrying out a strategic review, with the sale of the club being an option under consideration.

Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Ratcliffe made offers to buy the club from American investment bankers Raine, who were brought in to help the club evaluate the offers.

It was revealed on Wednesday that Ratcliffe was due to arrive by plane on Thursday to attend the presentation by the Man Utd management team alongside sporting representatives from INEOS.

Representatives of Sheikh Jassim are also expected to visit Old Trafford this week.

And according to The Telegraph, up to eight parties are interested in buying the Premier League club.

Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe are notably in the running, although the brokers also met with US hedge fund Elliott Management.

Not all eight are interested in a full takeover, including the aforementioned Elliott Management.

Discussions over the next week will be crucial in the bidding process, with the Glazers set to decide which parties will advance to stage three of negotiations.

Hopefully a takeover will be complete by the end of April and everything is going according to plan so far, although the Glazers are believed to feel "disappointed" with the offers that they received.

The Glazers would like around £6bn to sell Man Utd, but this report says their asking price is now around £5bn.

Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe have emphasized their desire to achieve a full takeover. The report adds that two other parties are in favor of these conditions.

Former AC Milan owners Elliott reportedly 'ready' to fund takeover; as are US hedge funds Ares, MSD Partners and Oaktree Capital.

In the meantime, there are concerns about Man Utd's participation in UEFA competitions if the Qatari or Ratcliffe buy the club.

The latter owns French club OGC Nice, while Sheikh Jassim's links with Qatar-owned Paris Saint-Germain raise concerns.

Currently, clubs belonging to the same owner cannot participate in the Champions League simultaneously, although UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has admitted that an overhaul of the rules is needed.

"We don't just think about Manchester United," Ceferin said.

"We've had five or six club owners who want to buy another club. We have to see what to do. The options are whether it stays that way or they are allowed to play in the same competition. I'm not not sure yet.

"We need to talk about these regulations and see what to do about it. There is more and more interest in this timeshare. We shouldn't just say no to investments for multiple ownership. clubs, but we have to see what kind of rules we set in this case, because the rules have to be strict."
