Residents and police disagree on number of people abducted by terrorists in Zamfara community
Residents of Wanzamai village in Tsafe local government of Zamfara state released the names of 85 people who were abducted by terrorists on Friday.
The community released the names following the police claim that only nine people were abducted.
Names of victims removed.Tsafe town resident Haruna Bashar said those abducted included residents of Wanzamai and Kucherri in Zamfara and some communities around Yankara in Katsina State.
"It is true because in our house at the moment there are more than five people from Wanzamai who are taking refuge. People are afraid and some of them have started to leave the community. We do not know not how many people the bandits took away because apart from those from Wanzamai, several people in the bush were also taken away. I heard that people from Kucheri and Yankara were also taken away,” he told the phone.

Residents of the community said that among those abducted were those who went to collect firewood, those who went to start clearing their land before the rainy season, and traditional medicine vendors who went to pick medicinal leaves.
The police command, through its spokesman, Mohammed Shehu, insisted, however, that only nine residents had been abducted.
Mr. Shehu, in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday afternoon, said efforts were being made to rescue abducted residents.
"Information received by the Wanzamai Village Chief Command revealed that approximately nine (9) women and children left their homes in the bush to fetch firewood. deep in the forest, they were boarded and abducted to an unknown destination by armed bandits,” he said.
