Security was tightened on Saturday in and around the Kofar Arewa Eid prayer ground, Daura, where the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired), joined his relatives to offer prayers in commemoration of Eid-el-Kabir this year. .

The president, who was wearing a flowing sky blue robe, arrived at the prayer site at 9:53 a.m., shortly after which prayers were offered.

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar, in his remarks at the prayer ground, urged Nigerians not to slacken their prayers for the president and the country.

A symbolic ram slaughter was also performed at the prayer site shortly after the prayers.

Besides two armored personnel carriers stationed on both sides of the prayer ground, a combination of all security agencies, including armed and plainclothes, were on red alert at the scene.

Security officers also searched anyone who wanted to enter the prayer hall for prayers.

A security team made up of police and regular soldiers also provided security in the town of Daura.

Governor Aminu Masari and Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Usman, also joined other Katsina Muslims on Saturday to celebrate Sallah.
