Samuel Goldwyn Films Acquires US Rights to Kim Jee-Woon's Cannes Title 'Cobweb'

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the U.S. rights to Korean filmmaker Kim's Cobweb, starring Song Kang-ho, which had its world premiere out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Barunson E&A is handling international sales of the film, which has also been sold to most other countries. worldwide, notably in Japan (Happinet Phantom Studio), France (The Jokers, as part of an agreement sealed by Finecut), Germany and Italy (Plaion Pictures), Spain (La Aventura) and Australia and New Zealand (Umbrella Entertainment).

Set in 1970s Korea, when censors could dictate a movie's plot, Cobweb stars Song as an obsessive director who wants to reshoot the ending of his finished movie "Cobweb" in two days to create a masterpiece. In the process, he has to deal with uncooperative cast and crew, as well as interference from censorship authorities.

Song performed in Bong Joon Ho's Parasite and won the award for best actor at Cannes in 2022 for his role in Broker by Hirokazu Kore-eda. Cobweb is her fifth on-screen collaboration with Kim.
