Sanwo-Olu swears in 11 permanent secretaries

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday unbundled the state's health sector with the swearing in of 11 permanent secretaries including seven for the health sector and the establishment of six primary health care districts for effective service.

Sanwo-Olu made this known during the ceremony at Lagos House, Alausa Ikeja, saying the appointment of seven of 11 permanent secretaries in the health sector was the first of its kind by a subnational entity. .

According to the governor, the development was part of the reforms undertaken by his administration to ensure that no one is left behind in delivering quality services to the people of Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu instructed the newly inaugurated permanents to be at their best at all times, saying they must be on top of their new responsibilities entrusted to them.

“My expectation of you and the expectation of the people of Lagos is to be at your best at all times. You must be on top of the new responsibilities that have been entrusted to you.

"As administrators and professionals with years of experience, you have a responsibility to help the government in the best way possible to implement policies and programs that will improve the lives of our citizens in accordance with the THEMES Plus program. We need to ensure that the Lagos Public Service is ready to serve the interests of the people,” Sanwo-Olu said.

In his remarks, the Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, in his earlier remarks, welcomed the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and their immediate families to the ceremony, revealing that six of the seven Permanently appointed medical officers would be the first accountants of the newly created districts for primary health care, while the last would lead the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA).

Through the nominations, HOS said Lagos, yet again, set the tone by creating a first-of-its-kind initiative in the health sector.

Muri-Okunola thanked the members of the Executive Technical Committee as well as the committee responsible for providing a framework for the creation of the new primary health care districts which he said gave more opportunities to officers in the medical cadre to be considered for the nominal position of Permanent Secretary in Lagos State.

The HoS further disclosed that Governor Sanwo-Olu's approvals for the appointment of 11 new permanent secretaries were given at different times, saying the first group of four (4) were appointed on July 3, 2023 , while the second group of seven (7) permanent secs, all military doctors, were appointed on July 10, 2023.

He said Governor Sanwo-Olu's commitment to improving health service delivery at the primary level, as promised in the THEMES+ program, informed his ground-breaking vision to endorse the establishment of health care districts statewide primaries with the intention of leaving no one behind.< /p>

The seven (7) pioneer permanent secretaries whose appointments were based on the new health reform are: Dr Mabogunje, Cecilia Abimbola, Dr Bankole, Olufunmilayo Olabisi, Dr Zamba, Olutoyin Emmanuella, Dr Bowale, Abimbola, Dr Lajide , Oludayo Ibidunni, Dr. Adeleke, Monsurat, and, Dr. Asiyanbi, Oladapo Olubanwo.
