S'Court rejects Abacha family's attempt to stop new investigation
Nigeria's Supreme Court has rejected an offer by the family of the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, to prevent the federal government from reopening criminal forfeiture proceedings against the former general.
>The government-led investigation targets family members for their alleged complicity in the looting of the state treasury during Abacha's administration.
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld judgments of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which had previously endorsed the federal government's power to reopen criminal forfeiture proceedings against the family.
The presiding judge, Judge Emmanuel Agim, dismissed the lawsuit for want of merit and merits.
The appeal marked: SC/641/2013 was filed by the late Abacha's eldest surviving son, Mohammed and his brother, Abba.
