Sokoto PDP: Arewa Group says Wamakko is behind mass defections
Arewa Paradigm Shift (APS) described the recent mass defections from the PDP to the APC in Sokoto State as part of the strategies of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako and "other key stakeholders have renewed their efforts to reposition the opposition party before the general election of 2023 elections".
The group, in a statement signed by its mobilization director, Adamu Musa Illela, said the opposition APC leadership has met several times in Sokoto "to share brilliant ideas on how best to to boost the political fortunes of the opposition party and has already taken action.”
The group recalled that "the first step towards the repositioning program led by Senator Wamako was observed when Alhaji Ibrahim Gidado, special adviser to Governor Aminu Tambuwal, dumped the ruling PDP for the APC and declared allegiance to the APC.
The group explained that Gidado, who was a former member of the State House of Assembly representing South Sokoto State Constituency 1, along with his supporters left the PDP due to a disturbing lack of concentration and distrust of its leaders. »
The former lawmaker's defection along with his loyalists, the group says, was "just a piece of ice pack, like the local government chairman of Tangaza Local Government, a very close associate of the incumbent governor Tambuwal, Alhaji Salihu Bashar Kalanjine as well as 8 advisers of the council, also left suddenly for the APC”.
The statement notes that “other ruling PDP bigwigs are expected to dump him soon, as Wamako and party leaders improvise on existing mobilization strategies.”
The group went on to note that "a new dawn in the history of opposition politics in Sokoto State is already here, as Governor Tambuwal's Commissioner for Careers and Security Issues, Colonel Garba Moyi Isa (rtd) defected from the ruling PDP government in Sokoto to the APC, citing instances of lack of focus and trust issues related to governance in the state.
