Soludo commissions the Anambra telemedicine hub

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo officially commissioned the state's telemedicine center on Wednesday.

He said the hub will be used as a case study in 10 community health centers within the Oyi local government area of ​​the state, to experiment with its effects before linking it to other other health centers in 181 communities.

The governor, who held the commissioning ceremony at Awkuzu Comprehensive Medical Center in Oyi council area, where the hub is located, said the hub is part of his plans to strengthen the system Health in Anambra State.

He said the new medical approach was aimed at addressing the shortage of medical professionals in the state.

He noted that the telemedicine center is the first of its kind to be launched in Nigeria.

Soludo has called on the Awkuzu community to provide adequate protection for the installation.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, said in his address that the initiative will increase access and improve the delivery of health care in the state.

According to him, "Telemedicine is the use of telecommunications technology to remotely diagnose and treat patients from any location, adding that this can be done through telephone conversation, email or instant messaging. "

He said, "This is an innovative way to access and deliver healthcare through digital devices such as mobile devices and computers."

"Telemedicine means you can be from the comfort of your home and make an appointment to see a doctor who works anywhere in the world.

“The hub would enable Ndi-Anambra to obtain medical care worldwide, the commissioner added.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Transitional Committee of Oyi Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Nweke, while appreciating the Governor, for the project, promised to ensure adequate security in and around the hub.

It has been established that the telemedicine center was built and donated to the state government by a community group, Adinma Awkuzu Association.
