An Ikeja Magistrate's Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State remanded a 36-year-old man, Innocent Osanebi, to Kirikiri Correctional Center for allegedly threatening to use a knife to kill his father, Francis Isekwene, in the Ojodu Berger area of ​​the state.

The magistrate, Mrs L.A Owolabi, issued the order after the defendant who faces a close charge of disturbing the public order brought against him by the police was arrested on Monday.

Police Inspector Mary Adiguje told the court that the defendant committed the offense on March 1, 2023, adding that Innocent, while allegedly acting under the influence of a hard drug suspected of being Indian hemp, in an attempt to extort money from his father, used a knife to threaten to kill him.

According to the prosecutor, the offense committed is punishable under Section 56 of the Lagos State Criminal Act, 2015.

The indictment reads: "That you, Innocent Osanebi, on 1st March 2023 at approximately 10:30 a.m. at 31 Bakare Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, Ikeja Main District, threatened of violence with a knife to kill a certain Francis Isekwene of 31 Bakare Street, Ojodu Berger and thereby committed an offense punishable under Section 56 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

Owolabi did not accept the defendant's plea.

The matter has been adjourned to April 4, 2023, for notice.
