A socio-political group in the Niger Delta region, the South-South Movement for Tinubu/Shettima, stood on Monday after its August executive meeting in Warri, Delta State, urging Nigerians to "avoid slander campaigns against Tinubu/Shettima" ahead of the 2023 general election describing them as "part of the antics of desperate and drowned politicians".

This was contained in a statement released by the group and made available to journalists following the meeting attended by senatorial coordinators and delegates from the six states of the South-South geopolitical zone comprising Akwa -Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Edo States, and anchored by National Coordinator, Besidone Samuel Eyengho.

Other signatories to the statement included Dr Emem Wilcox Wills (National Secretary); Chief Thank God Deizigha (National Organizing Secretary); Rod. Nwulu Charles Uche, (National Publicity Secretary); George Ogaga (State Coordinator) and Abu Momodu (Member).

While noting that "Tinubu/Shettima is the answer to Nigeria's multi-faceted problems and the best choice for the country today", the group reiterated that "the candidate for Congress President of all progressives , Bola Ahmed Tinubu is vigorous, warm, agile and adept at meeting the challenges and demands of a prosperous Nigeria.”

The group called on stakeholders in the geopolitical area to “embrace the ticket to ensure a prosperous Nigeria”.

He added that “sincere and concerted efforts must be made to fully reintegrate the region into mainstream national politics, in order to ensure meaningful and accelerated development.”

The group lamented that "the South-South romance with the People's Democratic Party since 1999, has failed to attract much-needed development to the region" and assured that the Tinubu/Shettima ticket would put the country on the right path to lasting peace, socio-economic growth and development.

The statement recalled Asaba's statement of Tuesday, May 11, 2021 by 17 Southern Nigerian Governors and said that "the presidency of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Kashim Shettima perfectly represents the aspirations of an extractive president of southern Nigeria, in 2023".

The group maintained that "Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu embodied coherence and stability in terms of political philosophy", pointing out that his days from the Democracy Alliance to the Nigeria Action Congress and the formation Congress of All Progressives speaks volumes.< /p>

"He is a stranger to political prostitution, associated with politicians who move from one political party to another, just to compete for power," the statement read.

It further reads: "Bola Ahmed Tinubu designed the development plan of present-day Lagos State when he was Governor. As the Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State, his versatility in the life of enterprise and business was leveraged. This was evident in the way he increased Lagos State's internally generated revenue from millions to billions on a monthly basis and prioritized competence above ethnic/religious feelings.

"Unlike its peers, BAT has an uncommon vision of identifying potential leaders and nurturing them to the peak of their professional and political careers. This has greatly contributed to the transition of power in the state from Lagos, from me governor to another since 1999, fitting perfectly into the development plan of the state, his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima has also demonstrated this rare quality of leadership by producing one of the most governors outstanding in Nigeria today, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

"BAT is a pan Nigerian (a detribalized Nigerian). As Governor of Lagos State, he appointed people from Lagos State and the South West as a whole to political positions Some of these individuals have developed their political and professional profiles under his leadership and are serving the country excellently in various capacities to this day.Lagos is a mini Nigeria and Asiwaju's pedigree is what Nigeria needs right now ."
