Strike: NASU denounces FUNAAB management for “intimidating” workers

The leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the Federal Agricultural University Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has reprimanded the university's management for allegedly intimidating its members who might take industrial action .

DAILY POST has learned that the national body NASU previously advised FUNAAB leadership that its members would begin a seven-day warning strike from Monday.

NASU accuses university of undue interference in its affairs; instigation of members against union leadership; victimization; refusal of promotion; arrest and detention of its members as well as suspension of four members of the association.

In response, FUNAAB Registrar Dr. Bola Adekola asked NASU National Headquarters to stay out of business, asking them to withdraw the strike directive.

Adekola said there was nothing happening at FUNAAB to justify the NASU strike, saying it was completely illegal for the national body of NASU to declare the strike for FUNAAB workers.

But a statement issued on Tuesday by its president, S.I. Edivri, said no responsible union like NASU will bow its arms to all the "scheming, lawlessness and impunity" going on at FUNAAB .

“It is bitterly discouraging that a university management can descend so low in blackmailing, attacking and vilifying its own staff simply because it wants to hijack the administration of the staff union,” said declared Edivri.

He maintained that "management's scheming attitudes and lies" cannot dissuade NASU-FUNAAB members from embarking on the 7-day strike to enforce his demands.

"In fact, the strike has already begun and is in full effect following its official declaration at a well-attended convention on October 24, 2022 at the university despite various kinds of intimidation from management.

“The leadership and entire membership of the NASU-FUNAAB branch commended the national headquarters for its proactivity in defending and saving the oppressed and working people from the hand of the oppressor NASU,” he said. he declared.
