Subsidy Removal Palliative: Bayelsa Government Unveils 106 Public Transport Vehicles

The Network of Bayelsa Professionals (NBP) has sought the support of the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, in his quest to alleviate the hardships of the people of Bayelsa following the new increase in the price of oil at the pump by the federal government.

This came as Governor Diri unveiled more than 100 taxis and six luxury buses in Yenagoa as part of his administration's palliatives to boost the transport sector.

The new transport plan for workers, students and the general population of the State with the aim of reducing their suffering caused by the new increase in the price at the pump of oil.

The Bayelsa Network of Professionals, in response to hospice care, called on the people of the state to support the governor in his new decision to reduce the hardship and hardship inflicted on them by the action of the federal government.

A statement issued Thursday in Abuja by the spokesperson for the professionals, Mr. Deinmobofa Tantua, expressed optimism that the difficulties associated with the removal of fuel subsidies would be eased by the new transport scheme.

The group said the development will also help create jobs for the many young people in the state, as more than 100 young people would be hired as drivers in the Intrastate and Intracity Transportation Program.

"As concerned professionals, ours is basically to congratulate the governor on the initiation of the transportation program, as it will greatly benefit the people of the state, especially the student community.

"Our students at the Niger Delta University in Amassoma, the Federal University of Otuoke and other state institutions should now breathe a sigh of relief.

"We want to use this forum to call on our residents of Bayelsa for more support for the governor," he said and noted that the new transportation system will help ease the hardships experienced since the nightly ban on tricycles in the state.
