Oil tanker explodes near Lagos pier

An oil tanker exploded in the outer marina area of ​​Lagos State on Tuesday, causing panic in the area.

The incident allegedly took place around 11:00 a.m., not too far from the State House.

A combined team of emergency responders from the Lagos Fire Department, Federal Fire Department and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were at the scene of the incident to extinguish the fire.

Police and military officers were also seen at the scene as some of them were controlling the crowd.

The fire was determined to have originated from the generator used for transshipping gasoline near the NIWA pier.

Lagos Fire Department spokesman Amodu Shakiri said no lives were lost in the blast.

He said: "A diesel truck of about 15,000 liters exploded and there were no injuries except for a container belonging to a construction company which was partially burned at the aftermath of the fire."
