Demolish your house for $200 with this rotating subwoofer

Many movies and songs use a lot of bass to make the viewer or listener seem more real. For this reason, subwoofers are common in high-quality audio setups, often costing a significant chunk of the budget. [Daniel Fajkis] takes the subwoofer to the logical extreme by building a rotary subwoofer on a $200 budget.

The principle of a rotating subwoofer is that a normal subwoofer physically moves air, much like a fan. If you could oscillate the air with a fan instead of just pushing it, you could turn it into a subwoofer, which is exactly what [Daniel] did. [Daniel] mounts a big electric motor on the housing of an old subwoofer to spin the fan. Then it uses the rotor linkage from a model helicopter and a modified subwoofer speaker to tilt the fan blades, which spin to create a truly impressive burst of air oscillating at such a low frequency than 1 Hz.

The video, after the break, is well done with a bit of good humor, including the legendary quote: "It's going to destroy my house, there's no chance we'll survive this one."

If the strength of a subwoofer isn't enough for you, maybe this subwoofer vortex cannon is.
