Netflix will re-examine the impact of the high-profile TV libel case between actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in a new documentary series released Tuesday night.

For six weeks in 2022, the US state court in Virginia heard the sordid details of Depp and Heard's volatile relationship, and its ultimate, unhappy end.

Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation over an opinion piece she wrote for the Washington Post alleging she was a victim of domestic violence, even though the The article did not mention him by name. Heard filed a countersuit.

Jurors awarded Depp - who denied abusing Heard - $15m (£12m) ) for compensatory and punitive damages.

Heard won one of three counterclaims against Mr. Depp and was awarded $2 million in damages and compensatory interest.

But the case, dubbed the first “TikTok trial,” became almost as infamous for the conversations it sparked about social networks as well as for the legal proceedings themselves.

As the series airs, we look back at 10 key moments from the court, which helped define this closely watched confrontation.
