Trial of Terror Suspects Held at Military Installations – FG

The federal government has concluded plans to continue the second phase of prosecutions against Boko Haram suspects currently being held at a military facility in Kainji, Niger State.

The Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Ms. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, who said this on Sunday, while speaking to reporters in Abuja, said Extensive plans and preparations advanced for the resumption of the trial, which she said would be held at military facilities.

She said, "The federal government is taking steps to reconfigure military detention facilities to make them adaptable and conducive to the resumption of trials.

"We will begin prosecutions by the end of the first quarter of 2023. We are in the process of renovating and, in fact, rebuilding facilities such as courtrooms and residential areas.

“It is important to ensure that enhanced measures are put in place. We use military facilities and therefore they were not built as real courts. »

“The use of military facilities is intended to ensure that trials take place in a safe and secure environment. There are risks associated with moving so many defendants at once for trial, so this is a critical issue that is of most concern. »
