A few weeks ago, Khalid Qasim received news that he had been waiting for 20 year. He had been released from Guantanamo Bay prison.
Qasim spent almost half of his life in Guantanamo, between the ages of 23 and 43. Like almost all the men sent there, he has never been charged with a crime.
His release order does not yet mean freedom. This is just the start of a long resettlement process which, according to previous resettlements, could take years. Where he will be sent, neither he nor his lawyers know.
