Ukrainian ravers mix parties and clean up war damage

As the smell of burning debris hangs in the air and the sense of security has yet to be restored, you I wouldn't expect to encounter a vibrant burst of techno music from a bombed-out shell of a community building.

But that's exactly what's happening at Yahidne in the north of Ukraine where a group of young Ukrainians pick up their shovels to clean up the ruins left by the war.

Russia invaded the country in February, with numerous towns targeted by missiles and artillery fire - leaving tall buildings reduced to dust.

Ukrainian youth organization Repair Together has set up what they call "cleanup raves".< /p>

They invite DJs to play techno music while volunteers and residents are working together to restore the ar are recently liberated from Russian occupation.

"We are rebuilding," Darka Harnyk, one of the of the 200 volunteers gathered at the Maison de la culture. 1 Newsbeat.

"It was the cultural center that was burnt down, there were several walls left and we had a rave there."< /p>
