They wear: Paris Couture Week fall 2022

As the haute couture season has become a cultural phenomenon, so has the street style of fashionistas outside of the runways, which are no longer just for couture clients and also attract celebrities, influencers and fashion fanatics. While influencers often wear full looks to promote their brand relationships, other types of creatives and fashionistas choose to push their personal styles forward, resulting in a myriad of interesting trends.

Some of the biggest street-style trends from Paris Couture Week, which ran from July 3-7, included trompe-l'oeil details, skin-baring styles, a denim revival, flowing silhouettes, on-trend head-to-toe accessories, and a balance in the palette between bright summer colors and minimalist "Balenciaga" black.

For example, model Jourdan Dunn emerged in an architecturally pure number from the Jean Paul Gaultier couture show, which featured looks by guest designer Olivier Rousteing, leading the way for the sheer, stripped-back trend. Elsewhere, Schiaparelli jewellery, pins and headwear were among the best examples of statement accessories that took to the streets of Paris, proving that more is more this summer. Other big accessories included oversized hats, shoulder bags and an array of sunglasses, which were often seen as the finishing touch to an all-black look.

Off-duty models sported Canadian tuxedos, oversized blazers, leather pants, and the ubiquitous white ribbed tank top; when it comes to genderless fashion, lace gloves, eye-catching accessories, bustiers and the occasional sailor hat added a touch of whimsy. Elsewhere, the couture tradition continued with plenty of Chanel tweeds, Dior plaids, iconic Gaultier trompe-l'oeil bodysuits, and more.
