Three men allegedly raped a commercial tricyclist

Three young men allegedly raped a commercial tricyclist in Awka, Anambra State, southeast Nigeria.

The incident happened on Monday.

PREMIUM TIMES has learned that the young men, suspected of being internet fraudsters, rode the victim's tricycle to a house in Okpuno, a suburb of Awka, the state capital .

The suspects allegedly lured the victim into their bedroom and took turns raping her.

Locals said the suspects must have done the act for ritual purposes.

The identity of the suspects and the victim has not yet been established.

Contacted on Wednesday, Anambra State Police Spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident.

He said state police commissioner Echeng Echeng ordered the case be transferred to the police's State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.

"In the meantime, the result of the doctor's report shows that there is penetration into his (victim's) anus but the suspects are in denial," he said.

Mr. Ikenga, an assistant superintendent of police, said one of the suspects had been arrested and two others were on the run.
