The return of Tommy Hilfiger

It's been three years since Tommy Hilfiger launched a collection in New York. On a rainy Sunday night in Brooklyn, the creator marked his homecoming with a show staged at the Skyline Drive-in, which turned into an amalgamation of past, present and future clashes of culture, art, music and fashion headline deconstructed" "Tommy Factory" art space designed to resemble the iconic Warhol Factory in a first-ever partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation.

"In the early 80s when I met Andy [Warhol], he invited to his Factory . I was so inspired by his love for pop culture. He brought together what I call fame, fashion, art, music, entertainment and stardom, and I thought, OK, that's genius – that's real pop culture, and that's what I want to draw inspiration from for my whole brand. Thirty-seven, 38 years later, that stuck with me,” said Hilfiger at a preview, adding that he would frequent the factory, often meeting the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Lou Reed, Hollywood stars and athletes, Sir Elton John and the Kennedys surrounded by the artist's paintings drying, scattered on the floors.

"I've always been inspired by Andy - I collect Warhol now - I was inspired mainly by its affinity with pop culture. I've always associated the [Tommy Hilfiger] brand with music and musicians, but over the past 20 years I've expanded beyond that into fashion, art , music, entertainment, Hollywood, sports, celebrities and influencers, and it kept my brand very relevant and very young.”

Like his friend Warhol, Hilfiger continued to tap into pop culture in a big way with his enormous see now, buy now the fall show, while paying homage to the artist through his room.
