Transfer: I didn't leave Bayern Munich for Barcelona because of Haaland - Lewandowski shouts
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has lamented that he didn't leave Bayern Munich to join the Blaugrana because of Manchester City's Erling Haaland.
Lewandowski said this while hitting back at Bayern Munich for apparently lying about the terms of his summer departure.
The Polish international has ended his eight-year spell with the German Bundesliga champions after completing a £42.5m move to Barcelona in the summer.
Several reports had suggested that Bayern Munich's interest in Haaland, who eventually joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund, was the driving force behind Lewandowski seeking a move away.
But the 33-year-old has now said that this information is far from accurate and that he would have had no problem with Haaland joining Bayern.
Speaking to ESPN, Lewandowski said: "No, that (leaving) had nothing to do with Erling. I'm the guy who, even if something goes wrong for me, the truth is more important .
"I don't want to talk about what exactly happened. But if the question is whether the decision to move was because of him, no, I didn't see the problem if he joined Bayern Munich.
He added, "But some people don't tell me the truth, say something different.
"And for me, it was always important to be clear, to stay true, and maybe for a few people, that was the problem.
"But in the end, this chapter is over and I open a new chapter in my life and a new chapter in my career."
He added: "So I think I'm in the right position, in the right place. So all that happened in the last few weeks maybe before I left Bayern Munich was also, of course, a lot of politics.
"The club tried to find an argument to sell me to another club because before it was hard to explain, maybe to the fans. And I had to accept that even if it was a lot of bullshit * *t a lot of bullshit about me.
"It's not true, but in the end, I knew that the fans, even at this time, are still very supportive of me."
