Trippier understands England boos but hails 'good point' ahead of 'massive' Wales 'battle'

Kieran Trippier understands why England fans mocked the team after their goalless draw with the United States, but insists they will be ready for a 'battle' against Wales.

After starting their World Cup campaign with a 6-2 thrashing of Iran, England fell back in Friday's encounter with the USA, who were the best side in a group encounter B which ended in a stalemate.

Gareth Southgate's side are still the favorites to progress to the knockout stages, but a lukewarm display, with just one significant shot on target, left fans unhappy and boos were heard inside the full-time Al Bayt stadium.

"Of course the fans want to see goals and win games," Trippier said when asked about the mixed reaction.

"But all I can say is that the commitment of the boys is there, we give 100% every game.

"Of course we understand the frustration because we didn't win the match but we gave it our all, a point is a good result.

"The one thing about me and my teammates is that we give it our all, as soon as we cross that white line we give it our all to win.

“Unfortunately we didn't win, but that's a good point; we kept a clean sheet, it's a good point for us in the group and now we move on, we focus on the next game. »

England's third and final group game is on Tuesday night against neighboring Wales, with Rob Page's men all but eliminated after losing to Iran and drawing the United States. United.

England top Group B heading into the final game and know progress is assured as long as they avoid a 4-0 loss on Tuesday.

But Trippier admits there is something more to the Al Rayyan reunion and England will be eager to get going as he backed Southgate's young stars to shine.

"The motivation is there, England v Wales is a huge game," the Newcastle full-back added.

"So all we can do now is recover, revisit the game where we could have done better of course, and prepare for the next battle.

"Every team in our group is in the top 20. So you can't underestimate any team, you have to respect and we certainly do that in Iran, USA and Wales.

"The only thing I will say is you see the young players in our team, they are playing at such a high level now anyway, Premier League, Champions League, Bundesliga .

"So I think they have that experience, so myself as an older player, we have a few other players, we're just there for them.

"We want these players to play on the biggest stage in the world and express themselves, enjoy it.

"That's the most important thing, show your ability to the world. So we're always here for them, they know if they need to talk to us, we don't want to put too much pressure on them. Come on just out there when you're on the pitch and just express yourself."
