Truckers write to Sanwo-Olu about four missing limbs

Truckers operating in the country's maritime industry under the auspices of the Council of Maritime Truckers' Unions and Associations have written to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu about four missing limbs.

The group in a letter Tuesday, titled "Illegal Possession of Firearms, Alleged Murder, Kidnapping, Vandalism of Property and Breaking Public Order" signed by the Vice President, Operations, COMTUA, Muideen Olapade, said their members, while trying to ensure sanity in the movement of their truck at Mile 2, were attacked by thugs believed to be ECOMOG boys.

They said the thugs wielding illegal weapons ranging from guns, cutlasses, charms and all kinds of illegal ammunition attacked members of the association and injured some of the members above. beyond recognition while four other members are still missing.

"Today, December 13, 2022, a large number of people belonging to our association, while monitoring the activities and the passage of trucks belonging to our members, on the road, as well as in ensuring members' compliance with stipulated regulations in an effort to alleviate the traffic jam around the Mile 2 axis met with strong opposition from thugs suspected of being ECOMOG boys led by a Hotwater.

These thugs wielding illegal weapons such as firearms, cutlasses, charms and all kinds of illegal ammunition attacked members of our association and injured some of our members beyond all acknowledgement. As of the time of this letter, approximately four of our members are currently missing."

The group said the thugs sullied the presence of Nigerian police officers and further attacked their members.

"It should be noted that the Nigerian Police FESTAC Area E Command accompanied our members to Mile 2 prior to this unfortunate incident.

“However, despite the presence of the police, these thugs belittled the Nigerian police, Nigerian law and the judiciary and also said that no one would stop them from continuing their illegal activities with criminality. < /p>

"As we speak, there is a breakdown in law and order as well as a series of injuries and damage to people and property.

"We hereby implore your office to take prompt action within the bounds of your duty to come to our assistance and restore law and order by employing the mighty hand of the law against these thugs."
