Ubisoft will unveil updated Skull and Bones gameplay this week

After years of delay, it looks like Ubisoft is finally ready to deliver a new take on Skull and Bones. The publisher has announced that it plans to host a showcase dedicated to open-world multiplayer pirate gaming on July 7 at 2 p.m. ET. Ubisoft will be streaming the event live on YouTube and Twitch, so don't miss it.

The company is expected to announce a new release date at that time. Skull and Bones had a difficult development. Ubisoft first announced the title at E3 2017, with an original release window slated for 2018. Obviously, that didn't work out. This pushed the game back to 2019, mid-2020, 2021 and then finally to 2022-2023.

In 2020, Elisabeth Pellen, the game's creative director, blamed the delays on a change in vision. The original premise of Skull and Bones was to adapt the navigation mechanics from 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and remove all of the narrative threads and stealth mechanics that many disliked.

“The answer is that we simply needed more time. We dreamed of something bigger for Skull and Bones, and with those ambitions naturally came greater challenges,” Pellen said at the time. "As Skull and Bones evolved from its original idea to what it is today, it was also necessary to take a fresh look at the team."

I hope it will be worth the wait.
