Unknown gunmen attack PDP rally and destroy property in Ebonyi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally venue in Ebonyi was attacked in the early hours of Friday by unknown gunmen destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The place of the rally was the home of the candidate (PDP) of the federal constituency of Izizi/Abakaliki, Barnabas Ofoke.
Deputy Director of the PDP Campaign Council for Media and Publicity, Moses Idike, revealed this in a statement on Friday accusing the state's ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) party of being responsible for the attack.
According to Idika, the main purpose of the attack was to thwart their party's Izzi Local Government campaign rally which was to be held at Chief Boniface Ofoke's home.
Mr. Nwoba said, “Today is the campaign rally of the PDP government in Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State. APC Governor Francis Nwifuru invaded the compound of PDP candidate for Izzi/Abakaliki Federal Constituency, Hon Barnabas Ofoke and smashed the house, vehicles and expelled the occupants.
“This was the compound the campaign was supposed to hold since the APC gubernatorial candidate and Governor Umahi said there was no open space for the PDP in the LGA".

The APC and gubernatorial candidate Francis Nwifuru, however, denied involvement in the attack.
Member of the party's media team and assistant to Governor David Umahi, Brutus Orogwu said the incident was self-inflicted by the PDP.
He said the PDP staged the said attack with the aim of tarnishing the image of the APC and its gubernatorial candidate, Francis Nwifuru, who hails from the region.
He said: PDP secretly sent his boys to destroy these things just to use them to tarnish the image of the APC in Izzi. Well, all I know is that they've already failed,” he said.
APC Campaign Council New Media Director and APC State Spokesperson, Simbad Ogbuatu, also debunked the accusation.
He said that Mr. Nwifuru and the APC were not involved in the said attack and accused the PDP of having organized the incident.
He said: This is just PDP propaganda. Nwifuru is a peaceful person, a man who respects human life and the rule of law and as such can never send anyone for such a despicable act.
“PDP is not in the field, they staged the attack. Ofoke is not a threat, he never won his vote unit”
"Ebonyi media and voters should ignore this PDP propaganda, it's because they know they don't have the ability to defeat the APC at the polls that they are offering these gadgets to tarnish the image of the PDP"< /p>
"Nwifuru did not attack anyone and did not send anyone to carry out any attack. APC has nothing and does not believe in or indulge in thugs," he said.
