Israel Arogbonlo

Amid the cash crunch plaguing the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued a denial by ordering depository banks to collect old 500 and 1,000 naira notes from customers.

Reports circulating on social media claim that Nigerians have been ordered to deposit their old N500 and N1000 notes in banks.

In a rebuttal statement obtained by TRIBUNE ONLINE on Friday, apex bank said the public should ignore "fake news".

Recall that many Nigerians in the early hours of Friday stormed the CBN offices and demanded that the CBN collect their old tickets.
