UPDATE: More than three months after the writers' strike began, Warner Bros. Television has decided to suspend the rest of the global agreements with some of its top creators. The list includes Greg Berlanti Productions, Bill Lawrence's Doozer Productions and Mindy Kaling's Kaling International, sources said. I heard the calls were made last night. JJ Abrams' Bad Robot is also being briefed, sources said. The John Wells' Productions pact was suspended in June, I heard. The deal with Chuck Lorre Prods. was suspended during the first wave in May, sources say.

This development comes exactly three months after WBTV and other studios began sending letters to writer-producers on set and first look deals that don't have any series in production or post-production, advising them that their deals are on hold.

It is understood that at the time WBTV did not suspend some of its top talent , especially those who had active projects. This is happening now.

For most top showrunners – on WBTV and other studios and streamers – arrangements would be of a suspended and extended nature, which means that the duration of the suspension will be added to the end of their term. The concern is more about the lower and mid-level pacts, which could lapse by the time the strike is over.

Unlike the WGA strike of 2007-08, there has not yet been a global termination of agreements (force majeure), with studios opting to stick to suspensions where they don't have to pay for the duration of the work stoppage. Some of the reasons lie in the fact that the studios had already downsized in the past year.
