pee ! Grocery start-up claims customer data was stolen in data breach

Weee!, an American online grocery delivery startup specializing in Asian and Hispanic foods, claims it was hacked and a year's worth of customer data was stolen .

In a brief statement released this week, the company said cybercriminals stole name, address, email address, phone number, order number and order comments - such where to drop off or leave orders - from customers who placed orders between July 12, 2021 and July 12, 2022.

The statement says the company does not store customer payment information and as such has not been affected.

It's unclear who was behind the breach, but someone on a known cybercrime forum claims to offer information about 11.3 million orders and 1.1 million customer accounts stolen from Weee! earlier in February. Troy Hunt, who runs breach notification site Have I Been Pwned, obtained a copy of all 1.1 million customer email addresses, allowing those affected to check whether their information has been compromised.

The seller also claims that the type of device used by customers to place orders, such as iPhone or Android, has been caught in violation.

Since February 2022, pee! was valued at $4.1 billion following a monstrous $425 million Series E raise, and has over 1,500 employees.

A pee! the spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment and questions about the breach.
