What Nigerians said after Morocco's historic win

Morocco's historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has sparked waves of celebration across the world, with Nigerians among the cheerleaders of the first African country to reach the last four of the tournament, having beaten Portugal 1-0 on Saturday.

Striker Youssef En-Nesyri scored the winning goal in the first half, leaping high to beat Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa and spark pandemonium at Al Thumama Stadium.

As the North Africans enjoyed huge support inside the stadium, so too did it on the internet as their breakthrough attracted millions of mentions across different media platforms social.

Nigerians were not left out in celebrating the Moroccans' achievement.

NFF Technical Director Austin Eguavoen sent his best wishes to Morocco.

He tweeted: “Congratulations Walid Regragui and all the Moroccan nation. shukran jazilan lak!"

A Nigerian journalist, Fisayo Dairo, also advised Morocco to qualify for the final thanks to the support the team received in Qatar.

"Morocco's victory changed the whole trajectory of the predictions because I'm not sure England or France can beat this team. Moroccan fans are the loudest in the tournament. Wow! Now I understand why the Nigerian teams can't deal with them. You don't go from a maximum of 5,000 fans to go to this organized chant of over 50,000 fans for 90 minutes and deal with it," he said. writes Dairo in separate tweets.

Sports analyst Ace Godwin Dudu-Orumrn wrote on Facebook, "Qatar'22: Portugal lule. Morocco qualify for World Cup semi-finals. First African country to reach this stage of the competition. Fantastic performance."

Football administrator Alloy Chukwuemeka added Morocco's win. Victory for Africa. Congratulations!!!"

"I will be traveling to Morocco to host the Atlas Lion next week," added Abuja-based sports journalist Sylvanus Ofekun.

United States-based Nigerian coach Terry Eguaoje added: "Congratulations to Morocco. Congratulations to Africa."
