Wilshere names the main difference between Arteta and Wenger that brings success to Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has identified the key difference between the methods of Mikel Arteta and Arsene Wenger that has made the Gunners so successful.

The Gunners have been brilliant in the Premier League this season, winning 11 of their 13 games with Mikel Arteta's side at the top of the table.

William Saliba, who has returned from a season-long loan at Marseille, has bolstered the defense while summer signings Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have added more quality to the squad.

Arsenal also benefited from the continued improvements of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard, with the trio helping them to a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge that saw the Gunners reclaim top spot from the reigning champions of Man City.

And Wilshere believes coaching is at a 'higher' level now under Arteta than it was when Wenger was still at Arsenal.

Wilshere said on talkSPORT: "When the club is doing well and winning, the mood can be very result-dependent, but it feels deeper than Arsenal in this time.

"When Mikel first arrived he talked a lot about the process and you see that now. He created a culture where it was all about winning and performing and he valued training and levels increased.

"I've never seen the first team training at the current level. Even when I was there and under Arsène, it's higher now.

"There are more requests and you are starting to see the results.

"It's a very complicated style of play and it always took a bit of time for these players to understand it, but the club is in a good position and I think the fans see it, which is the most important.

"Mikel talks a lot about the fans and their size and again the atmosphere is the best I've ever seen."

The former Arsenal midfielder is the Premier League club's current Under-18 head coach and he's seen firsthand how Arteta coaches his players.

Wilshere added: "I'm very lucky because I have a relationship with Mikel and watch the first team training all the time.

"He was actually someone who inspired me to become a coach when I went back there last year. I always thought about coaching, but I saw the way he coaches and the level of detail it goes into and it's top notch.

"For me, learning from him, watching him, getting ideas and directing things with him, he's really good."
