Wolves 0-1 Liverpool: Elliott Screamer sees holders through to FA Cup fourth round

Harvey Elliott scored an absolute peach as Liverpool cruised to a 1-0 victory over Wolves in their FA Cup third round replay.

The 19-year-old's fourth goal of the season pushed Jurgen Klopp's men past their hosts.

The lights went out at Molineux in the first minute, but Liverpool fanned the embers of a fading season to keep their FA Cup defense alive.

Their reward is a return trip to Brighton, which will come just two weeks after Saturday's 3-0 Premier League game.

It's hard to think they'll be so miserable again, with Klopp calling it the worst performance of his career, but their domestic campaign will be all but over with another Amex defeat.

They were given a reprieve after the first game ended with Wolves 2-2 - Mo Salah scoring controversially before the visitors were furious when Toti Gomes' strike was questionably ruled out in the middle of a VAR failure.

Liverpool didn't waste their second chance and, despite Wolves' best efforts after dominating the second half, the hosts never seriously bothered goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

They also started with a bang, having announced the signing of Pablo Sarabia from Paris St Germain before kick-off, and immediately attacked before the stadium was briefly plunged into darkness by a power cut .

The hosts would have liked a longer delay as the lights quickly returned to allow Liverpool to grab a 13th-minute winner.

It came from a promising Wolves attack as Rayan Ait-Nouri's shot was blocked but, when the ball was sent back to Kelleher, Liverpool ruthlessly ran through the home side.

Fabio Carvalho and Kostas Tsimikas got out of trouble, with Thiago Alcantara swiping Elliott to run into the ever-expanding space.

The England Under-21 international didn't need a second call-up and with Jose Sa out of position he beat the struggling goalkeeper from 25 yards.

The much-changed visitors continued to threaten and Cody Gakpo stepped in shortly after before Carvalho was denied a goal, correctly, for offside following another fluid move.

Wolves, who had improved considerably since Julen Lopetegui arrived in November, struggled to land a punch and Adama Traore drilled wide from an angle five minutes before the break.

Although they saw plenty of ball, it didn't produce a serious chance and Lopetegui called in reinforcements at the break with Nelson Semedo and Matheus Nunes.

It allowed the hosts to find some extra energy, although Traore again wasted their best effort when he flew off the edge of the box, and while half trailed Wolves stayed at the top.

Liverpool's pace was interrupted and Kelleher netted Ruben Neves' free-kick before Raul Jimenez managed to hit Traore's cross cleanly.

Time passed and Nunes and Diego Costa's cute play ended with compatriot replacing Matheus Cunha three minutes from time, with the striker's header in stoppage time also recovered by Kelleher as Liverpool fought their way.
