Wolves appoint ex-Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui as new head coach

Wolves have announced the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as the club's new head coach.

Former Spain, Real Madrid and Sevilla boss Lopetegui will take charge on November 14, subject to obtaining a work permit, with Steve Davis remaining in charge until interim. Saturday's home game against Brighton.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said on the club's website: "Julen is a top manager, with great experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very happy to have concluded a agreement to bring him to Wolves.

“From the very start, Julen has been our number one choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the weeks to come.”

Wolves have confirmed, if all necessary paperwork is completed, Lopetegui will take over at Molineux after the game against Arsenal, which is the last before the World Cup break.

Davis, the Wolves under-18 coach, took over as temporary first-team manager after Bruno Lage was sacked early last month, assisted by James Collins and goalkeeping coach Tony Roberts.

Wolves remain in the bottom three having won just one game since Lage's departure, against Nottingham Forest, with their only other point under Davis in last week's 1-1 draw at Brentford.
