Women's Euro: Wiegman returns by dugout to England for Spain clash after negative COVID-19 test

Sarina Wiegman will be back on the touchline for England's Euro 2022 quarter-final against Spain after testing negative for COVID-19.

The Lionesses sailed through the group stages to reach the last eight at home, but were without head coach Wiegman for their last outing, against Northern Ireland, due to a positive coronavirus test.

Wiegman later suggested she was "very hopeful" of returning for the crucial knockout clash at the AMEX Stadium, and the FA confirmed on Wednesday that the 52-year-old had recovered on time .

"Sarina Wiegman has tested negative for Covid," read a statement from the FA.

"Wiegman will now resume all elements of his role and take his place on the bench for tonight's quarter-final against Spain."

Wiegman has named the same starting XI in every game so far and is set to do the same at Brighton, the same ground where England beat Norway 8-0 in their second group stage game .

The winners of England's clash against La Roja will face either Sweden or Belgium, who meet at Leigh on Friday, in the last four.
