You can't evict your landlord, CUPP tells Ayu

The Coalition of United Political Parties on Friday criticized the decision of People's Democratic Party National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to sanction Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Opposition parties have said that the party's National Working Committee, as currently constituted, has no moral right to question or sanction Wike without the president resigning.

>

CUPP Spokesperson Ikenga Ugochinyere who said these in a statement was reacting to an interview given by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Olugunagba where he said the PDP would look into the Wike's recent activities and decides appropriately to do so.

Ologunagba was responding to questions about the Governor's public endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwu-Olu of Lagos State, considering that the PDP also has a gubernatorial candidate in the state.

>

Ugochinyere called the threat to discipline Wike provocative, adding that the plan is capable of further dividing the party.

The statement reads: "The truth must be told that the NWC PDP led by Ayu has no moral right to question Governor Wike.

"I warn that the threat to discipline Wike is capable of creating more factions in the PDP and thus sounding the death knell for the party in the upcoming elections at all levels as the decision is provocative.

“My call, therefore, is that Ayu drop this unpopular idea. Furthermore, the president must resign due to the various allegations against him.

“No serious political party will go to a general election with a national president with allegations of corruption around his neck.

"In case he doesn't know, the Ayu-led PDP's threat to suspend Wike is like the case of a squatter trying to evict the landlord. In this case, Ayu is the squatter while Wike is the owner.

"If he really loves the party and wants it to win the next election, Ayu should not stay the party's national chairman for another day. It's time for him to step aside and let peace reign. "
