You Goofed On The 13% Mining Bypass - APC Mocks Governor Adeleke

The Osun State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for his poor understanding of statecraft and the governance.

The party, in a statement released Monday by its acting state chairman, Sooko Lawal, in response to what he called the governor's show on the mining sector, said Governor Adeleke's claims that state governments over the past 25 years have mismanaged mining returns or failed to reclaim the diversion due to state ignorance.

According to Lawal, "The claims made by Governor Ademola Adeleke today, at the inauguration of the Revenue Committee and the Solid Minerals Committee set up by his government, are those made out of ignorance and malice intended to embarrass former state governors. ."

He added that "it is disturbing that a state government which should have access to quality expert advice from relevant ministries, departments and agencies is issuing an official statement announcing its administrative recklessness and lack of serious about 13% diversion on mining.

"Contrary to Governor Adeleke's assertion that the Segilola Company and other state mining companies should pay Osun State a 13% derivation on the value of gold and other mineral resources produced in the last 25 years in the state, the good information is that miners do not pay diversion to the state.

"Miners pay royalties, ranging from three to five percent of each ounce of gold or solid minerals mined in the state, to the federal government because the mining is under the exclusive list or the authority of the federal government," Lawal said.
