Zak Crawley

Crawley helped Kent win a mammoth championship against Somerset this week to preserve their Division 1 status and secure themselves. secure a place in the first half.

And the club's goals are firmly committed to pushing for the success of the red ball after their T20 and One-Day Cup triumphs of the past two seasons.

< p class="" data-reactid=".q58y73fsoc.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-4">"The next 10 years should be good here," the 24-year-old said.

Crawley and Tawanda Muyeye, 21 years, combined to put 176 for the opening wicket at Canterbury on Tuesday to give a glimpse of what Kent fans have to look forward to.

Spinner Hamid Qadri, 21, achieved a world record Career 87 with bat to help Kent after 492 then assisted 22-year-old dressmaker Nathan Gilchrist - who claimed match numbers of 8-134 - bowling Somerset snatched victory by one inning and 151 runs in three days .

Crawley said, "We knew the talent was here, we just didn't put anything in place at the start. A few individuals like Ben Compton (1,193 league to 54) and Gilchrist (33 wickets in eight matches) did, but other than that we've been a bit sporadic with our performances.

"If we could start making this start to the season, we would be a top team."

The numbers certainly back up Crawley's sentiment. Over the past five seasons, Kent has played 14 red ball games in September, winning 11 of them and losing just two.

On the other hand, they only won one of the 10 league games they played in April - at Edgbaston in 2019 - losing six of the others.

It could be 44 years since Kent last won the championship, and 18 since they were last runners-up, but Crawley insisted: "When we're at our best, we're a good team in the Division One top half.

"If we play like we have for the past two weeks (beating Hampshire the week before, also in three days), if we put it together we're a decent team, we just have to put it together early in the season so we're not under pressure all the time."

Alo rs the average age of Kent's squad will drop significantly next year following the release of 46-year-old all-rounder Darren Stevens, his positive playing legacy will live on in the players who remain.

"That's exactly how he's always played - try to take the game, try to give the crowd something to look at. That's exactly how we want to play cricket and there were a lot of people here who liked the way we played,” Crawley said.

"It was great fun and we have a lot of young players here who are very good prospects. Joey Evison, Tawanda Muyeye, Hamid Qadri, Nathan Gilchrist, Jordan Cox. Lots of good young players. Hope the next 10 years should be good."

Crawley has named paceman Gilchrist as someone who could follow him in the England organization.

He added, "He's been impressing me since he's been here. He's a class bowler, he's really, really good. honors. He hits the pitch ver...
