Zakat Foundation assists 9 students, 4 others in Kaduna

The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF) has provided financial assistance to 13 people in Kaduna State.

The beneficiaries are nine students from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and four members of the Nigeria Defense Academy Muslim Ummah (NDAMU).

Speaking after the distribution of 150,000 naira to the nine AFIT students for their maintenance, tuition and accommodation, the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque of the Army Base Nigerian Air Force, Kaduna, Wing Commander Aliyu Umar, instructed recipients to avoid frivolities and use the money wisely.

The four NDAMU beneficiaries each received N50,000 from the foundation.

NDAMU Deputy Emir Prof. Yau Muhammad explained that the four were shortlisted after a committee headed by him was given the mandate to select eligible beneficiaries.

Muhammad said that many applications were received, but only the four beneficiaries showed up in the selection exercise.

Earlier, the emir of the Muslim community, Prof. Usman Tar called on wealthy people to imbibe the spirit of helping poor and vulnerable members of society.

The representative of the foundation, Mrs. Khaola Olagunju, said that this year the foundation received 200 million naira in the form of zakat and so far has covered 23 states where assistance has been provided to beneficiaries.
