July 20 - The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has requested a replay of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against South Africa after filing a complaint about the referee in charge .

The Zambian women were eliminated on Monday night, after Banyana Banyana beat them 1-0.

The game's only goal came in the 94th minute, after a highly controversial penalty was awarded to the competition's six-time finalists, but the Zambians felt aggrieved by refereeing

Ethiopian referee Lidya Tafesse consulted his pitchside monitor and decided that Martha Tembo had fouled Jermaine Seoposenwe, but then Zambian coach Bruce Mwape questioned the VAR goal.< /p>

“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) would like to inform its stakeholders and the football family that it has lodged a formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the refereeing displayed by the Ethiopian referee Lidya Tafesse Abebe during the TotalEnergies 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Semi-Final Match between Zambia and South Africa," an official FAZ statement read.

"In a letter of complaint dated 18 July 2022 addressed to CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba, FAZ Secretary General Adrian Kashala cited six key incidents, including the last-minute penalty imposed on South Africa.

"We therefore wish to challenge the referee's decision to award such a penalty resulting in a goal that prevented our team from qualifying for the final as we call for a serious review of the game.

"We demand that the penalty be waived, that a replay be ordered, and that the referee be prohibited from managing plays.

“We have further noted with great concern the poor officiating that has characterized the tournament, particularly our matches. We have recorded similar incidents of poor match officiating by referees who have not been penalized, among including referee Bouchra Karboubi who continued to manage the tournament matches as if nothing had happened."
