Last May, Labor won local elections, becoming the largest party in local government for the first time since 2002.

It was a massive vote of confidence in the Labor Party to deliver on local expectations – and a sign that residents were fed up with years of Tory failure. Even before the dust settled on this stunning result, our 22 new board leaders got to work.

At a meeting with Keir Starmer and senior members of his shadow cabinet in May, they agreed to implement emergency cost-of-living action plans within 100 days of taking control. Just over 100 days later, they are taking concrete steps to ease the pressure on the pockets of citizens across the country.

Take the example of the Medway Council, which has invested in a system to track low-income families - so it can identify households that may be eligible for financial assistance but are not yet applying. request. Or Stoke-on-Trent, which brings together over 60 different organizations or individuals with a contribution to make to protect residents from the cost of living crisis, by drastically reducing bus fares and committing to upgrade 14,000 social housing.

People are being hit hard by the Tory's mortgage penalty, which has resulted in more than a million borrowers paying thousands of dollars more every year. And despite their empty promises, inflation in Britain remains high – and higher than many other major economies.

Instead of fighting rising costs, Rishi Sunak posts corny tweets and appoints a toilet czar. It is clear that the Conservatives are out of ideas and out of the way. But workers and their families should not have to pay the price...
