In an explosive personal essay published by The Cut, Ashley Tisdale took photos of her former friend group, which reportedly includes other public figures such as Disney star Hilary Duff, Meghan Trainor and Mandy Moore.

Tisdale, who rose to fame after starring in the Disney productions “Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “High School Musical,” explained in her personal essay that she was initially excited to reunite with her “village” of friends after giving birth to her daughter around the same time as the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, as time went on, the “Phineas and Ferb” actress said she began to feel things were taking a turn, leading her to question whether the women she was spending time with were actually her friends. According to Tisdale, she had been excluded from various group events and found out about it through social media.

“Another time, at dinner with my mother, I realized where I was sitting with her, which was at the end of the table, away from the rest of the women,” Tisdale explained. “I began to feel excluded from the group, noticing each time that they seemed to exclude me.”

Tisdale explained that she first checked herself, realizing that the women in the group might have relationships with each other outside of her. “At first I tried not to take things personally. It’s not like people weren’t allowed to get together without me — and maybe there were very good reasons why I wasn’t invited,” she said.

Eventually, however, Tisdale said she’d had enough and sent the group of moms a scathing text explaining why she was breaking up with them. “It’s too high school for me and I don’t want to be involved with it anymore,” she said.

Tisdale added that she never had a bad opinion of women, except for one. “But I think our group dynamic has stopped being healthy and positive – for me anyway,” she wrote.

Tisdale revealed that after he sent the text to his old group of friends, some women responded, trying to smooth things over with insincere apologies. On the other hand, others explained that they were unaware of his feelings. Regardless, Tisdale offered some encouraging advice to other mothers in her essay.

“Motherhood has enough challenges without having to wonder if the people around you are on your side,” she wrote. “You deserve to experience motherhood with people who, you know, truly love you. And if you have to wonder if that’s the case, here’s the hard-earned lesson I hope you take to heart: This isn’t the group for you. Even if it seems like they’re having a better time on Instagram.”

After Tisdale’s public essay made headlines, social media users shared their reactions, and the overwhelming majority don’t appear to be on the Disney alum’s side.

“If you ever wonder why you’re being excluded from a group and then decide that an appropriate way to deal with it is to do a photoshoot and then write and post about it, then the good news is that you may have answered your own question,” one Reddit user commented.

Another user wrote: “What I would say to Ashley is pretty much standard therapy 101: you don’t like everyone. Nobody likes everyone. Not everyone has to like you.

Tisdale shared an end-of-year recap

Before speaking candidly about her complicated friendship with other celebrity moms, Tisdale shared a CGI carousel on Instagram. In the caption, the “He Said She Said” singer explained how challenging 2025 was for her, noting that she learned a lot.

The performer also took a moment to celebrate her many accomplishments and milestones, including her 40th birthday, the launch of her wellness business and returning home to Disney for the “Phineas and Ferb” reboot.

“This has all been a dream. I feel incredibly grateful, proud and excited for what lies ahead,” she concluded.
