A new study from Randstad claims that Gen Z workers are most concerned about AI replacing human roles, despite being heavy users – while conversely, baby boomers feel more confident in adapting to new workplace trends.
Overall, four in five workers expect AI to affect their daily tasks in some way, but about half (47%) believe AI will benefit employers more than employees.
One in five people also believe their job is safe from AI, but the need to prepare and adapt is clear.
Two thirds (65%) agree that they need to improve their skills or risk being excluded, but who takes responsibility for this remains a hotly debated topic. Half (52%) have taken responsibility for developing their skills.
Randstad also discovered trends in the jobs market, with positions requiring AI agent skills increasing by 1,587% in 2025. Demand for rapid engineering (+403%) and AI trainers (+247%) has also increased.
“Labor markets are under immense pressure and it is those who adapt who will succeed,” wrote CEO Sander van ‘t Noordende.
The data also shows companies how they can attract and retain talent by tapping workers with good salaries and a good work-life balance.
Additionally, the human touch remains crucial in all workplaces. About three-quarters learn soft skills from older colleagues (78%) or learn technology and AI skills from younger colleagues (72%).
“However, human connections remain at the heart of organizations, with managers playing an increasingly important role in maintaining stability during the Great Workforce Adaptation,” added van ‘t Noordende.
