Weirdest Friday has been a huge streaming success since arriving on Disney+. The long awaited Weird Friday The Legacy sequel was a moderate box office successat a time when comedies are struggling to make a splash in theaters, and that success has only continued since fans can watch them at home.
With a much more elaborate body swap incorporating four different bodies, Weirdest Friday certainly lives up to its title. In the first film, a mother and daughter played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan switched bodies. But in the second, they both trade places with a few Gen Z kids: Lohan’s daughter and her future daughter-in-law.

Continuing the story and rehashing the premise, Weirdest Friday openly invites comparisons to the original film. It’s a lot more complicated, to begin with. In the first, we just have to remember that Tess is Anna and vice versa. But in the sequel, you have to keep track of Tess, Anna, Harper, Anna’s daughter, and Lily, Anna’s fiancé’s daughter.
Anna switches bodies with Harper and Tess switches bodies with Lily. It’s a never-ending pleasure to watch Curtis and Lohan play a teenage couple in the bodies of women of a certain age. Their on-screen chemistry hasn’t missed a beat, and this new conceit is a goldmine of cross-generational comedy.
Eventually, Weirdest Friday isn’t as funny as its predecessor – the first film is a laugh riot, while this one is more of a handful of light laughs – but it’s just as heartwarming. His jokes don’t always succeed, but they are just as effective in uplifting the audience. You will come away from this film with a smile on your face and a warmth in your heart, just like the first one.
Will there be another weird Friday?
Following the current title formula, it’s possible we’ll get a third installment titled The weirdest Friday in a few decades. But is Disney planning to make another one? The Mouse House has yet to officially greenlight a trio, but the creatives involved have discussed ideas for a third film.
Director Nisha Ganatra said that The weirdest Friday would involve a six-way body swap to up the ante even further compared to the runner-up. She wants to see Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray switch bodies. Weirdest Friday did as well as the first, so a third film should be a no-brainer.
